Butler County High School's Navy JROTC program is helping students grow into strong citizens. Principal Stoye Young shared that the program's work rests on physical training, character education and community service.
Each of those asks something of the cadets. Physical training means showing up and putting in the effort when it's hard. Character education keeps conduct and responsibility in front of students every day. Service takes what they learn and puts it to work for people beyond the school walls.
That combination lines up with Character, one of the five pillars of the Butler County Schools Portrait of a Learner. The Character pillar describes personal and professional conduct, built on durable skills like accountability, professionalism and trustworthiness. It's the kind of growth families and employers in Butler County notice long after graduation.
