Butler County High School FFA members visited North Butler Elementary during Teach Ag Week to help first, second, and third graders learn about agriculture and where their food comes from. BCHS Principal Stoye Young shared the visit as an example of Collaboration, one of the five pillars of the district's Portrait of a Learner.
In the Portrait of a Learner, Collaboration means teamwork and connection. Its durable skills include building positive relationships and being responsible, and this visit put both to work. The FFA members took on the job of teacher, and North Butler's youngest students got to learn about farming and food from older Butler County students.
Agriculture is part of how many Butler County families make a living, so knowing where food comes from matters here. Visits like this one also link two schools in the same district. High school students share what they're learning through FFA, and elementary students get a look at what's waiting for them at Butler County High School.
For Butler County families, the takeaway is simple: learning in our schools doesn't stay in one building. When older students turn around and teach younger ones, both groups grow, and so does the connection between our schools.
