Kentucky Commissioner of Education Dr. Robbie Fletcher visited Butler County Schools on Friday, October 23. One of the highlights of his visit was a student-led tour of Butler County High School conducted by members of the school's Renaissance Team.
Superintendent Robert Tuck used the visit to show how the district is bringing its strategic plan and Portrait of a Learner to life, connecting what happens in classrooms to student experiences and to life after high school.
A central part of that work is the district's Local Accountability Dashboard. Families, educators, business leaders, and community partners helped shape it. The dashboard gives a fuller picture of student success, covering academic growth, student engagement, character development, community connections, and college and career readiness. It works alongside Kentucky's state accountability system and helps the community see the opportunities and progress happening across Butler County Schools.
Students Lead the Way at BCHS
During the tour, Renaissance students shared with Commissioner Fletcher how BCHS is strengthening transition readiness, building the skills in the district's Portrait of a Learner, and creating a positive school culture through student leadership and engagement.
They also highlighted the Renaissance Team's ongoing work to build school pride, strengthen relationships, encourage student involvement, and promote a sense of belonging through the team's "Butler Belongs" initiative. Sharing that work with the Commissioner put Communication, one of the five pillars of the Portrait of a Learner, into practice.
The students also shared examples of how their leadership is helping shape the school environment at BCHS.
Butler County Schools exists to help every learner grow into a person of character, capability, and connection, and the students who led this tour are part of that work.
